What We Do

About Us What We Do Volunteer Donate
Believe…Reach…Discover.

The Siena Learning Center attempts to challenge the cycle of poverty, improve the quality of life, and empower the individual adult learner. The overall goal of the Center is to serve the marginalized by providing individual tutoring in basic literacy skills, job readiness, and the development of self-esteem for adult students through the talents and resources of the Dominican Sisters and volunteers from the local community.

Here’s how we meet our goals…

  • Provide individual tutoring in basic literacy skills in ESL, or English as a Second Language.  ESL is designed for those whose native language is not English and who want to learn to read, write, understand, and speak English.
  • Support learners who wish to obtain their American citizenship by assisting in English instruction and preparation for the civics portion of the naturalization test.
  • Build job readiness by helping learners learn computer skills, obtain valid state ID, driver’s licenses, etc.
  • Develop self-esteem for adult learners by helping them to strengthen their communication skills.

It's more than just reading ....

The Siena Learning Center helps to provide more than education … we provide a community.

Our tutors help new immigrants learn about American culture, helping them feel more comfortable in their new home.

Our staff helps our learners find the assistance they need to succeed – from driving lessons to emergency assistance.

Our learners become more active in their children’s schools, in their parishes, and in their communities!
